Hakuba Ski-Jumping Stadium

Hakuba Ski-Jumping Stadium, where Japan ski-jumping team got their gold medals, was used for the ski jumping events at the 1998 Winter Olympic Game. Visitors can take the lift, located between normal hill and large hill, up to the starting point which is 140m above ground to experience the scenery viewed by the representatives. In green season, visitors may also have the chance to see the practice of ski-jumping.

Hakuba Daisekkei(Huge Snowy Gorge)

Hakuba huge snowy gorge, with an overall length of 3.5km and 600m of differences in elevation, is the biggest snowy gorge in Japan. It is like a natural refrigerator which cools the wind passes by, that can make you forget the heat in summer. During summer, along the trekking course from the trailhead Sarukura to Daisekkei, you can have a nature treasure hunt for different kinds of lovely flowers like Paris japonica, umbrella leaf, glaucidium palmatum and anemone; trees like Japanese beech and Japanese horse-chestnut; clean natural water flow from melted snow on the mountain top; the wonderful scenery of the lofty mountains like Mt. Shiroumadake and Mt. Korengesan. It takes about one and a half hour walk from Sarukura to Daisekkei.
※Professional climbing equipment is needed from Daisekkei cairn to the above area.

Happo-One Trekking Course

Happo-One is named because of the spreading mountain ridges from Mt. Karamatsudake.
Happo-One Trekking Course is a trip to the legendary Happo-ike Pond which is surrounded by panoramic view of 11 of 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. On a fine day, the Hakuba Peaks reflected in the still waters of Happo-ike Pond; Mt. Fuji can also be viewed from the 1st cairn. Furthermore, the area above Kurobishi is demarcated as Chubu-Sangaku National Park. There are numerous endemic species of plants which are regarded as Nagano natural monument grow insdie; special natural monuments like Japanese serows and grouses also inhabit in the park.

Himekawa River Source Nature Park

Himekawa River was one of the Class A rivers which owned high quality of water in the past. Its name comes from Nunakawa Princess, a daughter of the Imperial Family. The river is 60km long in total; Himekawa River Source Nature Park is located at the riverhead. The water source is from the spring water from Tokaku Mountain which plays an important role as the central divide between Japan Sea and Pacific Ocean. The riverhead is also selected as one of the Top 100 Water in Japan by Ministry of the Environment. The riverbed is covered with water plants; wooden footpath for visitors is also equipped around the area.
As the whole area is demarcated as nature conservation area of Nagano, no cars are allowed to enter for environmental protection. Visitors who come by car should park at the car park of Sanosaka Ski Resort and take a 7-min walk to the riverhead.

Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden

Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden, located at an altitude of 1,515m, commands a fine view of 3000m+ North Alps. It takes an 8-minutes ride in an 8-perpon gondola to access the garden on the Alps Plaza. On fine days, you may see the rural scene of Hakuba, the famous mountains in Shinsyu such as mountain range of Togakushi, Shigakogen Highlands and Mt. Asamasan while riding up in the cable car.
Over 300 species of alpine plants can be seen in the botanical garden between June and October. All generations can enjoy the observation of plants is one of reasons of its popularity.
